Rough Start to 2010 for Alex
After a first-round 75 at the Northern Trust Open, Alex is in danger of opening his 2010 season with three consecutive missed cuts. Alex typically starts slowly, so there is no immediate cause for concern. For the first time in years, Alex took time off over the Holiday Season and did not practice for nearly a month. He wasn’t expecting to bolt out of the gate.
He used the first tournament he played, the Bob Hope, as a sort of warm-up. He figured he would get 4 rounds of tournament golf in and was simply working on his game, more concerned about getting ready for the season than scoring well. Even so, he struck the ball fairly well, ended up -2, and felt confident going to San Diego.
The Exec Team arrived in San Diego Tuesday night, greeted by torrential rain. Would the inaugural Cejka Cup be washed out? Not to worry as the skies cleared and 32 Cejka friends and fans competed for the Cup. Alex donated prizes for the winning team and a great time was had by all. Pictures and results later.
It was off to Torrey the next day. Cejka opened on the more difficult South Course and played well. After a 72 all were confident he would go 2 or 3 under on the vastly easier North and play on the weekend. Unfortunately, he could never really get much going. He didn’t play poorly, just OK. And when he had opportunities, he didn’t convert. To be honest, his putter was the primary problem. With two three-putts from 15 feet, and numerous other misses, the cut could have easily been made. Oh well. Another vacation for the Exec Team cut short by an MC from Alex.
It was more of the same today as Alex was 130 out of 132 in Putts per GIR. It’s sort of hard to score well when that happens. This despite he was 10th in driving accuracy. Alex will probably have to go -4 tomorrow to play on the weekend. That’s what the early season is for though, working the kinks out. Although it would be nice if there were better results, Alex is rounding into form. Once he starts draining some putts, he will be a force. Just be patient.
